How we got here

Our Story

Eight years, two apartments, one very patient dog, and a question asked on a cliff above the Pacific.

  1. The Golden Gate Bridge rising out of morning fog over San Francisco Bay

    2019

A rainy Thursday in San Francisco

Ava was dodging the drizzle into a Mission District bookshop; Daniel was hiding in the same aisle with a coffee he’d already finished. They argued kindly about the best poetry section in the city, and he walked her to the bus stop. The bus came and went twice.

  2. A couple walking a dog along a mountain trail in the sunshine

    2022

Two suitcases and a very large dog

They moved in together in Oakland, adopted a rescue named Biscuit, and discovered that every weekend was better outdoors. Trails, farmers’ markets and Daniel’s ambitious attempts at fresh pasta became the rhythm of their life.

  3. Rugged Big Sur coastline with cliffs above the Pacific Ocean at sunset

    2025

    The question, in Big Sur

On a quiet October evening, with fog lifting off the coast, Daniel asked Ava to spend the rest of her life arguing about bookshelves with him. She said yes before he finished the sentence. Biscuit, tied to a nearby fence post, was not consulted.

And next: Saturday 12 June 2027, among the vines.

An outdoor wedding reception with long tables and string lights glowing at dusk

Garden formal

Dress Code

Think a summer evening in a beautiful garden: elegant, comfortable, and ready for the dance floor.

  • Sage
  • Dusty blue
  • Terracotta
  • Champagne
  • Dusk plum

What to wear

Midi or floor-length dresses, jumpsuits, and suits or blazers in lighter fabrics. Linen and silk will be very welcome at 4 pm in June.

Footwear

The ceremony is on grass and the terrace is gravel. Block heels, wedges, flat sandals and dress shoes will all be happier than stilettos.

Layers

Afternoons reach the low 80s, then the valley cools to the high 50s after sunset. Bring a wrap or jacket; we will have blankets for the dinner tables.

Please skip white, ivory and cream. We will be wearing those. Jeans and shorts are best left at the hotel.

Questions

Anything not covered here, write to us at hello@avaanddaniel.com.

Can I bring a plus-one?

Your invitation names everyone we have saved a seat for. If you are unsure, or your plans have changed, send us a note and we will do our best to make room.

Are children welcome?

Yes, at the ceremony and cocktail hour. Dinner and dancing are for adults only, and we can recommend local sitters if you would like an evening off.

What if it rains?

June in Sonoma is almost always dry. If the forecast turns, the ceremony moves into the Barrel Hall at the same time, and the evening carries on as planned.

Is the venue step-free?

A paved, step-free path runs from the parking area to the olive grove, terrace and dinner tent. Tell us in your RSVP notes if you would like a seat near the entrance.

Can I take photos during the ceremony?

We are keeping the ceremony phone-free so everyone can be present. After the vows, photograph away and share them with #AvaAndDaniel2027.

Where do I park?

Parking at the vineyard is free. If you would rather not drive, the shuttle leaves Sonoma Plaza from 2:45 pm and returns after 11 pm.

Is Biscuit coming?

He is, in a bow tie, for the ceremony and portraits only. Other four-legged guests will have to stay home, with our apologies.

With gratitude
